Cloud computing

What lessons can we learn from the mobile landscape that can help the future of desktop/tablet operating systems in the future? Google Chromebook is the only example I know where this theory was executed this to the extent that it was, but obviously the future of operating systems have a place in the "cloud". Desktop apps are becoming web apps, and the more web technologies become able to tap into hardware and native abilities, the less platform fragmentation is necessary. I believe web apps and OS's are the future.

But for now, what can we start pulling with the consumer and even enterprise expectations growing to encompass access all the time, everywhere?
