Much like the Supplies and Tools category on Etsy, sites like Creative Market and myfonts.com provide tools to create. In contrast to finished products that a consumer may be searching for, these sites are made for designers and creatives to get what they need to deliver solutions. We know the difference between quality elements that will take creations to the level necessary to solidly solve problems.
There is a special appreciation for tools that come from only makers that you just don’t get from a consumer of the maker’s craft sometimes. For example, someone reading an article on a website may not appreciate why the article is easy to read but they would notice if it weren’t. Similarly, the designer who took the time to set the type correctly on-screen had to spend time choosing that typeface and then applying fonts according to good readability practices and the user’s contextual needs. This craftsman (or craftswoman) will appreciate all of the detail and nuances that make that designed tool a good one to use for their project.
I want to create more for my people. The makers. The creatives, the designers.
This is why I’m inspired to work on my first typeface, icons and elements for designers. More to come on leveling up my drawing skills and personal projects!
